Just a list of some of the things that our residents have said about us recently:

'I have been involved with CDHT for about three and a half years now and find their overall treatment of residents is really excellent. Since the Chief Executive John Denny took over, the organisation has gone forward in leaps and bounds. The appointment system for repairs is very good and the workers keep to appointments. Resident involvement is excellent and we can go to choose our suppliers of kitchens doors bathrooms and all other new products. We can get involved at all levels of the organisation from the Board to filling in surveys.'

'I enjoy being an inspector for the Trust because, as a resident of Lache, I like to see the area looking neat and tidy. The role of an inspector means I can let the Trust know when there are problems with litter, grass cutting and when trees and bushes need trimming. I'm sure, like myself, the residents enjoy living in a clean, green abd safe environment.'

People power sees Chester Point development for Blacon taking shape

A COMMUNITY has played a pivotal role in creating a 200 home development on its doorstep.

The first properties in Chester Point, off Treborth Road, Blacon, have been built and new residents are already moving in.

But not before they have been screened by their new neighbours.

Focusing on affordability, with a variety of rental and shared ownership apartments, homes and bungalows, Chester and District Housing Trust’s Chester Point is a radical departure from the flats that once dominated the area.

Liz Kent, who has lived in Treborth Road for 30 years and now works for CDHT, was instrumental in the scheme being realised.

“It used to be really nice when I moved in but by the end of the 1990s it was a bit rundown,” she said. “We noticed drug dealing going on in the flats – the standard was dropping.”

Danielle Harrison, development officer at CDHT, said: “The area was blighted with anti-social behaviour a few years ago. There were a lot of three-storey flats and people didn’t want to move into them. The Trust decided to move people out in 2004.”

In 2000, Liz and other residents formed TASC 2000 Residents Association to address their concerns, handing a petition to the city council and Chester MP Christine Russell.

When an inspector condemned the area’s sinking yards and poor brickwork its fate was sealed.

Then CDHT allowed TASC 2000 to choose the developer, the type of properties and even the road names for the new development.

Now the group is overseeing who is allowed to live in the development.

Ms Kent added: “Everybody’s been interviewed and we’re asking if applicants have police records.”
